Costs
Our first meeting is free, and is a chance for us to discuss your goals for counselling, ask questions and see if we can work together.
One-to-one counselling The most common session is a 50 minute weekly appointment. I charge a fee of £60 per 50 minute session. If you require a longer weekly session, I charge £80 per 1 hour and 20 minute session. One-to-one concessions I reserve a certain number of concessionary sessions for low-income clients and students at a reduced fee of £45 per 50 minute session. Places are limited, often with a waiting list, so please contact me if you would like to access this reduced rate to check for availability. Couples Counselling Charges are £95 per 50 minute session, or £135 per 1 hour 20 minute session. I recommend a longer session for couples, to give everyone the space to talk and feel heard. How to pay Payment is one session in advance. Payment for face-to-face sessions is at the end of each session preferably by Bank Transfer, or by cash or cheque. Payment for online and telephone sessions is in advance. Payment for all types of session can be made online via bank transfer in advance - please ask for more details when we meet. |
Session length and timings
Unless otherwise agreed, sessions last for 50 minutes and are weekly. I recommend starting with weekly 50 minute sessions, as it gives you time to process and work on new ideas in between sessions without losing momentum. However, everyone is an individual, and some other options are:
Double sessions
Two consecutive 50 minute sessions with a 10 minute break in between. This can work well if you cannot attend every week due to travel, family or work commitments. It can also work very well for those who feel they want to spend longer working with me due to they way they process - the small ten minute break in between is an excellent way to recap and refocus the work for the second session.
Session and a half
1 hour and 20 minute sessions. This can work well for those who feel they need a little longer to process and explore their issues each week, and find 50 minutes just a little bit too short to finish satisfactorily. This is also the minimum I generally recommend for a couple.
Twice weekly
Two 50 minute sessions a week. Often useful for those who feel overwhelmed initially, who are in a current crisis such as a bereavement or an illness, or who work better with a 'little and often' approach. A few days in between each session is recommended.
