Asperger's, Autism and Therapy
In recent years I have come to specialise in working with Autism and Asperger's, sometimes known as ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder). Approximately 50% of my practice is now working with this diverse group, and issues range from anxiety, depression, relationship and work troubles, loss, feeling isolated, 'not good enough' or not connected in a way that suits their way of being. I have a MSc (Masters) in Autism and Related Neurodevelopmental Conditions, such as ADHD, ODD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia. Some people come to me with a diagnosis of Asperger's from childhood, but many more are now coming forward with either a diagnosis in adulthood, or wondering if they might have Autism and are contemplating finding out more. In addition, I work a great deal with those who have someone with Autism in their lives, maybe a parent, child, partner or colleague.
Whatever the circumstances, finding a way of being that suits you and helps you work towards the life you want is often the goal. The issues you encounter can often benefit from working with someone with a passion, interest and expertise in autism, such as myself. I would always recommend seeing someone with specialist training in this area, if possible.
